Services – Overview

Alcoholism Center For WomenAlcoholism Center for Women (ACW) provides a safe, sober, and stable environment where women can have their special needs addressed by professional staff in a supportive environment.  ACW’s residential addiction recovery program was the first on the West Coast exclusively for women.

Currently funded for 18 beds, the six-month program provides residents with intensive alcohol and drug recovery services.  Outpatient Treatment provides up to 12 months of recovery assistance in English and Spanish for women while they pursue education and employment opportunities, and develop skills and receive support to assume family obligations.

Both the residential and outpatient programs integrate the 12 step method with individual and group social support techniques and effective research based clinical protocols, creating a holistic approach to alcohol and drug addiction recovery.

In addition to the outpatient and residential programs, ACW has taken a proactive position in developing interactive prevention programs for adolescents and youth.  These prevention programs include:

  • L’BOC (Love Being a Woman of Consciousness), which provides drug-free social activities and interactive prevention education to women age 18 and over who are seeking substance abuse prevention support activities.
  • New Choices provides a six month five-day-a-week alcohol/drug prevention services to adolescent women ages 12-19.
  • RADAR (Reducing Alcohol Distribution to Adolescents by Retailers), which trains youth to educate retailers about laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol to minors, mobilizes communities to prevent the licensing of liquor stores in low-income areas, and conducts sting operations with law enforcement and ACW prevention staff.
